Visualising Indices

  Description/Aim  

Squared and Cubed are words we use to describe 'to the power of 2 and 3'. But waht word would you use for the power of 4? What does it mean? Squares and cubes are good ways to visualise powers of 2 and 3 and understand their meaning. This task invites you to look at a different way to visualise these powers! Draw on the artist within you to make an unique visual image! Please find below a work sheet that gives you some examples and outlines the task!

Time - 1+ hrs (depending on how creative and determined you are)

This is a very creative exercise and really does demand that students explore the notion of indices, challenging
common misconseptions in the process.
