Dancing Vectors
Vectors GCSE Dancing Practical geometry 14+

Description/Aim

Moves you never knew you had! Dancing Vectors introduces the idea of vectors as units of movement using the analogy of a dance routine! You will practise and perform a Dance routine to music based on instructions given as vectors that tell you how far to move and in which direction. You bthen use the analogy to help you solve vector problems!

Please find below, a guide to the activity, 'Routine Cards', a second routine for a group of 5 and a follow up worksheet. As well there are two video demonstrations.

Teachers Notes - Why? How? What?

Why we like this activity ….

A superb opportunity to move maths out of the classroom to generate intrigue and engagement. The
analogy is a great one that has shown itself powerful in helping to solve problems. All this and great
fun as well.

How this activity be used ….

The activity takes a bit of prepartion from the teacher, but IT IS SO WORTH IT! You need to get hold of
a copy of 'Hot Stuff' by Donna Summer and probably practise at home alone once before you do it! If
you have a space big enough then it can be done with big groups - even teams!

What to expect when using this activity – from our experience

A bit of prep time, a good laugh and positive understanding!
